TomaTrap™ and Funnel Trap.  (McPhail Type Traps)

Target for TomaTrap ™ and Funnel Trap

Positioning

The siting of traps, or their positioning, is very important and operators should be carefully instructed in this matter.

Basically, the operator should place his traps so as to maximise the probability of pest capture. This will be acheived by placing the trap where the pest is most likely to visit and insuring they have unimpeded access to the trap.

The following rules may be used:

  • Site the trap in preferred host trees bearing fruit.

  • Site the trap in the brightest part of the tree in open shade ensuring the trap will not be in direct sunlight at any time.

  • Site the trap so that foliage does not come within 15 cm of the trap aperture.

  • Traps should usually be suspended 1 - 2 metres from the ground.

  • If preferred host trees bearing fruit do not permit observance of rule 2, 3 and 4 then place trap in a barren host tree or non host tree which does satisfy these rules and is close to the host tree.

  • Suitable places in a tree will usually be found to lie about half way between the trunk and the outer foliage. The trap should not hang below or outside the foliage of the tree .

Use

For use with liquid attractant lures

Apply 2 millimetre of the liquid attractant to a cotton wool plug. Place the dosed plugs in the traps at a rate of 1 per trap and replace as necessary.
